"A few months ago I read a tweet by René van Schie, the city of Amsterdam’s official advisor for the hotel sector. He described Adri Doorneveld as “the man who both literally & figuratively put A’dam Noord on the map”. I fully agree with this characterisation. Read this article in the New York Times.
Doorneveld has spent a great deal of his professional and private life in Amsterdam-Noord and knows the history and current owner of every construction project, former shipbuilding shed and shop in the area. He also knows his way around all the bicycle paths and footpaths in what is Amsterdam’s greenest district.
On several occasions I have had the pleasure of accompanying Doorneveld on one of his trips. Among the most memorable of these were working visits to the NDSM shipyard (industrial heritage that has since found a wonderful new purpose), the Zonneplein (one of Noord’s hidden jewels!) and Overhoeks, combined with the Van der Pek neighbourhood (old and new Noord united) I recommend that everyone take a guided tour with this man, who is “Noord’s memory”."

"Hi, Adri. Great to hear that you have your own business now! I have been on several of your guided tours, in different groups. It’s unbelievable how much you know about the area you show to people, in terms of facts and figures as well as personal experience and anecdotes.
You explain things with lots of enthusiasm, and I’m convinced that Amsterdam-Noord is greatly indebted to you. You have done such a good job at introducing so many people to the area and showing them its possibilities. I wish you luck with all the people you will be introducing to the area and lots of fun with your new business!"

"If there’s anyone who knows Noord like the back of his hand, it’s Adri Doorneveld. Every tourist attraction, every restaurant, every ferry and passenger boat, every park, every hospitable farm and B&B, every festival and every special spot in Noord: Adri has already been there. And what’s even better: he can tell about it in a expressive and engaging way.
A walking tour or ride with Adri through Noord is never a casual affair, but is always worthwhile. You leave with a ton of cultural-historical and current information, but not without first having enjoyed some excellent food and beverages with Adri in one of Amsterdam’s best restaurants. By the end of one of these visits, Noord will have revealed all its fascinating secrets to you, thanks to Adri.
As joint owners of a tourist-related business in Noord, we are greatly indebted to him. Thanks to Adri, we figure prominently on the tourist map of Amsterdam."
Lilian Tilmans

Always a great pleasure to work with him."
happen to have been born in Amsterdam and have been living in Amsterdam-Noord since I was ten.
On a bicycle, with the wind blowing through your hair, I’ll take you on a discovery tour to the most surprising places in Amsterdam-Noord. I will tell you the stories and facts about the past, the present and the future of this trendy part of town. The background stories about how Noord came into being, its villages and garden communities, urban development and architecture. The rough industrial terrains and the splendid peatlands, the quiet atmosphere of a village just outside the city.
Stories about the captains’ homes, the flooding of the Oostzaan garden community, the Honig doctor’s home, the Overhoeks Tower, the Children Tree, Ajax, the hospital homes, the construction of the North Sea Canal, the Gallows, the ferries crossing the IJ, the Ransdorp tower, the friendly bombardment, the Mosveld Babies and many other stories.
During my work for the district of Amsterdam-Noord, I have shown thousands of people how Amsterdam-Noord has changed. These changes have even caught the attention of the New York Times. But not only the NYT. All sorts of media are paying attention to the way Amsterdam-Noord is undergoing a transformation.
